Due to disruptions caused by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, this year’s Senior State Cup was rescheduled to coincide with the Tri-Series weekend. This resulted in an awesome 3 days of Oztag with some thrilling action on the field. The tournament saw 660+ Games, 100+ Referees, 40+ Officials and over 200 teams ranging from U10s to 50s Mens.
A massive congratulations goes out to all players that participated over the weekend for playing such a high level of Oztag. A huge thank you also goes to all our referees and officials that helped make the weekend run so smoothly.
The SSC and Junior Tri Series saw players from as far north as Townsville to the border line of Tweed Coast and everywhere in between. There was some fantastic skill on display over the weekend which makes us excited about the Interstate Series that we have coming up in September where we will see our QLD teams battle it out against NSW teams in what promises to be a thrilling showdown.
The SSC portion of our tournament this year saw 6 different venues win grand finals. Usual suspects Labrador, Miami and Wavell Heights led the charge with numerous finals appearances. Miami took the chocolates with the most medals securing 5 Golds and 2 silvers. Closely followed by Wavell heights with 3 Gold and 1 silver. Dark horses Townsville impressed as well, securing 1 gold and 1 silver. Springfield, Moorooka, Rockhampton, Coomera, Caloundra, Hervey Bay and Tweed Coast also made finals appearances. We had a number of MVPs from the weekend which was spread across 8 different venues.
Our Junior Tri Series portion of the weekend saw our 3 QLD teams: Jesters, Rebels and Fury – go head to head in a series of hotly contested games. From these games are where our Junior QLD Interstate Series teams will be picked. Jesters was the most successful team winning winning 7 out of a possible 16 divisions, closely followed by the Rebels.
